Getting ready for the farrier/trainer’s visit

Here are some expectations of the owner/handler that will contribute to a productive visit:

  • An initial “live” conversation with the horse owner/handler is necessary prior to the first appointment to establish the horse’s history and be clear about expectations
  • The horse needs to be tied or stalled and ready for the visit
  • Payment is expected when services are rendered
  • Setting up a regular visit schedule is most beneficial for the horse, more convenient for the owner and ensures availability for services.  A 6 to 8 week recurring appointment is strongly recommended for trimming/shoeing
